Did Anyone See This?

I saw this online today... I am FASCINATED!! This is one of the last uncontacted tribes! They are in Brazil near the Peruvian border. REAL Amazon jungle people!

I decided I'm going to join the tribe. Live life the way it's supposed to be lived. Where your day consists of finding food and shelter, not money and 24 hr news programs. Just think, you wake up, roll in paint, and get on with your day. Hopefully Nate will come. I always thought he looked good in red.

But really, truly fascinated. I mean, we know what we are looking at in that picture, but what in the world is going through their minds? I'm pretty sure, this had to ruin their day. "There is a big loud thing circling in the sky, and my bow and arrow won't reach it!"

Anyways, thought I'd share. This really made my mind wander.

PS - How does EVERYONE know to make Bows n Arrows?
PPS - Do you think the one in Black is the leader? A woman? WHAT?!

I'm a Fan of the Henderson Clan!

Over the Memorial Day weekend Nate and I headed up to Huntington for some good times and good food. Saturday morning my whole family went to the Scottish Festival happening at the Orange County Fair Grounds. It was Nate and I's first time attending! It was fun to learn some more about Dougie's culture (Dougie = bro-in-law, for those who don't know).

Here is ShaSha enjoying some Scottish tunes...

My other bro-in-law Peter is Bulgarian and wanted to make sure no one forgot it.
Shannon & Dougie, CA representatives of the Henderson Clan.
We found one tent where we got to wear some real armor. Here is that darn Bulgarian Peter again.
Sisters looking their best (one of my better pictures)
One of the neatest things we saw was the Scottish games. I can basically wrap up all the events with one definition - contestants pick up something really heavy and try to throw it very far (or high).

This is the caber toss. The contestant will pick up the bottom of that huge pole, get it balanced upright, run as far as he can with it and right when he can't go any further, he tosses it as far as he can. I think you have to make the pole do a full flip to score.

By the way I wish I had taken pics of Nate during the caber toss, he was sooo into it.

And while Sofia, is not quite ready to come out and play, I'm pretty sure she enjoyed the Scottish festival, all from the comfort of Lisa's belly :)

People Watching, T-Shirt Reading

A favorite pastime of mine is some good ol' fashion people-watching. What I have come to realize is some of the BEST people-watching can be done while working out at the gym. Honestly, it gets me through my cardio every time I'm there.

One of my favorite scenarios is when the "meat head" guy (in the middle of grunting through the toughest workout of his life) catches sight of the petite girl in next-to-nothing. What usually unwinds is the meat head will then start walking by the girl every chance he can in an attempt to make eye contact. Just when he thinks he (and his biceps) have caught her attention in walks the much taller and much buffer meat head that is her boyfriend. Tough break guy, tough break!

A new revelation took place last week while I was on the Eliptical. It's kind of my new theory and I welcome everyone to test it out the next time you are getting your work-out on. You can learn a lot about a person by the T-shirt they wear to the gym.

I mean, think about it. People aren't hiding behind their best clothes, clothes that portray the person as how they want to be seen, not who they are. Instead, they are wearing their T-Shirts. T-Shirts that have been acquired throughout their life. T-Shirts that support their favorite sport teams. T-Shirts representing the college they graduated from in '78. T-Shirts of vacations taken and races completed. I saw one on Sunday on a normal looking guy, probably in his mid-30's, it read, "The Great Bed Race." It had a cartoon drawing of people riding on an upside down bed. Well I looked it up and these races do exist! Check it out.

Just by the shirt I know this guy most likely has a sense of humor AND likes to ride beds down streets. Now do you see? You can get some very useful information about people simply by reading their shirt. Try it out next time. I dare ya.

PS - Does anyone know where these Bed Races take place? I need to try this out!

My Sister's Keeper

Okay, quick review for this one.

I definitely enjoyed My Sister's Keeper. It was a quick, easy read that kept my interest the whole time. I'd recommend for someone looking for a summer read.

Unfortunately, I've hit my max on Jodi Picoult. I always enjoy her books, but themes have become repetitive and even her twists in storyline have gotten predictable (ShaSha you were there when I figured out "the big secret"). I try not to read a lot of one author so this could have been my last of Picoult, at least for awhile.

On to Time Traveler's Wife!

Stevie is Ruining my Sleep!

For the non animal-lovers out there, you might want to skip this post- I know how some people think that letting animals sleep in your bed is gross. Just look at this face though!

So I am guilty of letting my dog, Stevie, sleep in my bed. In my defense she never starts there. I set her up in her bed on the floor and she usually falls asleep before I even turn off the light. That sweet little face, has an agenda I've come to discover! She waits until I am asleep or very near it anyways, and then puts her little paws on the bed to plead with me. Out of sheer laziness (given I am half-asleep) I let her up. She gets way deep in the covers and falls right to sleep.

BUT, problems have surfaced. It is affecting my sleep, therefore measures need to be taken.

Stevie, for one, has to be touching me... and I hate it! I am constantly pushing her away. She also has taken to sleeping directly in the MIDDLE of my bed.... taking up as much room a 25 pound pooch can. So I'll move her away to a side, only to wake up an hour later with paws in my back and her in the middle again! Ugh.

There are 2 other habits to mention. My little princess, cute as a button, SNORES! It's not just hard-breathing either, it's like the snore of an old man. When the snoring wakes me up, I begin to reposition her until I find the right position that will make her snoring stop.

The last habit is kind of my favorite (it's cute, really, but I need sleep!). She loves to go way down in the covers (I kind of prefer her there, because it muzzles the snoring). However, she overheats! I wake up to her trying to shake the covers off and then like a mole she starts coming up from the depths... and she is PANTING! I mean really panting! Like, "I just finished my fastest 100 yard sprint" panting. It makes me laugh every time, but, again, sleep deprivation is the subject here.

I've laid it all out for you guys. Please remind me to make her stick to the bed on the floor! I need sleep!

Top 10 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mother and Mother's Day I thought I would compile a Letterman-style list of the top 10 things that I love about my mom. For those of you who don't know her, she is the best and, like I always tell her, she's my favorite. So here it goes..

The Top 10 Things I Love About My Mom

10. This outfit ;)

9. When she made cookies for my dad in the morning, we got to line up and have a bite of cookie dough.... and then we would re-lineup and have another... All before breakfast!

8. For carrying me to bed every night when I pretended to be asleep... even after we moved to a 2-story house and I had PROMISED she wouldn't have to carry me up the stairs.

7. Christmas - I'm not saying I don't believe in Santa, but he got A LOT of help I think. She knew how to make us jump for joy when we saw what "Santa" had left.

6. She was my personal taxi driver. As a kid there wasn't a sport I didn't play. Now add musical theater and school onto that...Times it by 3. Wow, that's a lot of driving.

5. She made me feel better when I was sick - Cinnamon/sugar toast and my favorite "Fairy Tale Theatre" video.

4. She's understanding - Like when she came to pick me up from "Skate Night" in 4th grade and let me stay for the couples' skate because I KNEW Kyle (my crush) was going to ask me to skate with him.

3. She was Super Woman when we were growing up. She worked full-time, but still had time to make dinner and make each one of her daughters feel special.

2. She always makes me feel better. Whenever I am down or upset about something, she knows just what to say and usually can make me laugh while doing it.

1. She is the best woman I have ever known.

Love you, MAMA!

Fun in Colorado

Last week Nate and I were fortunate enough to take a little vacation to good ol' CO. Nate's college friend, Shawn Han, was getting married, so we made a trip of it. Due to flight delay after flight delay we got to Nate's parents' house at 1:46am Thursday morning. The delay postponed our Rock Band-ing, but don't you worry we made up for it Thursday afternoon.

Rock Band, bringing families together since 2007.

Nate's mom, Lynn, took a turn on the drums too! She even got through her very first song without failing. All you out there who have played, know how great a feat that is..

Later Thursday, we went to Shawn and Summer's Bachelor/Bachelorette Party at Splitz Bowling Alley. It was definitely a good time. Clare had excellent bowling form (She tied Nate for 1st our first game).

Nate and I...

The boys, Nate, Brian and Shawn. Old College Roomies and Bronco's Fans always..

The "gang" of the weekend was me, Nate and the Merritts, Clare and Brian. We said it was good practice for our future trip to Costa Rica :)

That pic was when we were on our way to the Rehearsal dinner on Friday. We went to a yummy, yummy Thai restaurant that I can't remember the name of for the life of me.. Below is Shawn Han on his wedding day, one of his groomsmen custom made Shawn a shirt with his dog, John Elway, on the front. Hilarious!

Nate and I at the wedding ceremony, looking very fancy :)

Ahhhhhh....

Same 3 college roomies, but this time looking a little more put together..

All in all, the trip was a great time. It was nice to spend time with Nate's fam, friends and to see more of Colorado.
