I'm a Fan of the Henderson Clan!

Over the Memorial Day weekend Nate and I headed up to Huntington for some good times and good food. Saturday morning my whole family went to the Scottish Festival happening at the Orange County Fair Grounds. It was Nate and I's first time attending! It was fun to learn some more about Dougie's culture (Dougie = bro-in-law, for those who don't know).

Here is ShaSha enjoying some Scottish tunes...

My other bro-in-law Peter is Bulgarian and wanted to make sure no one forgot it.

We found one tent where we got to wear some real armor. Here is that darn Bulgarian Peter again.

One of the neatest things we saw was the Scottish games. I can basically wrap up all the events with one definition - contestants pick up something really heavy and try to throw it very far (or high).

This is the caber toss. The contestant will pick up the bottom of that huge pole, get it balanced upright, run as far as he can with it and right when he can't go any further, he tosses it as far as he can. I think you have to make the pole do a full flip to score.

By the way I wish I had taken pics of Nate during the caber toss, he was sooo into it.

And while Sofia, is not quite ready to come out and play, I'm pretty sure she enjoyed the Scottish festival, all from the comfort of Lisa's belly :)

Okay, first of all, is "I's" really correct? I always struggle when I get in that situation (Nate and I's) I just don't know what to do, but I know you are a learned girl, so I want to know if you really know, or if you just went with it . . . .

Second of all, love the Bulgarian pride. And, I want you to know that I'm sure Nate is just waiting for it to be more PC to display his Iranian pride. I know he denounced his citizenship (truth be told, he was forced by our government to do so), and no one really thinks Iran is all that great right now, but, you know, someday . . . .

Finally, (and keep this for when you really need to get his attention), I guess I was reading pretty fast and thought you wrote you DID get a picture of Nate during the caber toss, so my best guess was that he was the guy in the black t-shirt next to the really big guy in the gray t-shirt. And I felt a little sad for both of you. But I was really pretty sure it couldn't possibly be Nate, but that was my best guess . . .anyway, I'm relieved!

"We" (here in Colorado, not really me) have a Scottish festival every Labor Day weekend in Estes Park - a great little touristy town. Which Nate hates, by the way! I've never been to the festival, but I've heard it's great because of events like the caber toss and the Scottish tunes!

Sounds like a fun day, particularly because you have a family connection to those Scots.
