Where's Nikki?

As you may have noticed, I've been a little behind in my blogging (on this blog and the other, actually). Truth is, I am a BUSY girl. I knew it was going to happen, but wow am I tired out!

You're probably wondering what the heck is taking up all my time. I'll start by saying I am taking 14 units at SDSU. I am at school Monday, Wednesday, Thursday usually for 3 hours, sometimes for 5. Also, I started student teaching. I am at my Middle School Monday through Friday, 7am-10:40pm. The 3+ hours I spend at the site does not even give justice to how many hours a day I work on it. TEACHING TAKES PLANNING, PEOPLE! Especially, for us novices :) When I am not at school learning or teaching, I am reading about learning or teaching- it's a never-ending whirlwind!

That being said, I really feel like I am learning a lot. I'm like a big ol' sponge, absorbing anything and everything about the teaching profession. It's neat to be able to apply what I learn in my college courses almost immediately to my teaching (did I really just write "neat"?). Those poor 7th graders are like my little experiment (j/k). Student teaching can be a little awkward at times. One women I met compared it to "Cooking in your mother-in-law's kitchen." She elaborated by saying that "You want to do a really good job, but really none of the utensils are yours" (not my quote, Lynn ;)). but everyday I am getting more comfortable with my class. Things will get easier, hopefully, and really it's all an investment to my career. All I need to do is survive!
