This past weekend, because the weather was overcast (not the kind of weather suitable for Mount Vesuvius or the Amalfi Coast), Nate and I decided to take the weekend getting more settled in. We had a couple of great dinners with friends, headed to the support base to do some major Commissary shopping (the Commissary is the grocery store on base for those non-military folk), had my first lesson in driving stick (I didn't do too bad!), and took a long walk around Lago d'Averno . The lake is just less than a mile from our hotel and used to be considered the entrance to Hades by the Romans. While we didn't see any devilish creatures we did enjoy our trip. Here are some pics.
All over Naples you will find ruins sticking out in what seems like the middle of nowhere. I love that.

good lord, i'm barely keeping my head above these waves of jealously! ;) seriously, looks like you guys are taking advantage right off the bat. please pllleeeaaassee go to positano...it's, by far, our favorite spot in europe. let me know if you would like any restaurant/hotel recommendations if you go. :)
