Just behind our resort and right next to Lago d'Averno there lies a volcano, Monte Nuovo. Because it erupted in the 1500s it now just looks like a crater, but the trail around the ridge leads to some pretty views. Because I'm usually antsy to get out, we tend to take quite a few walks/hikes when Nate gets home from work (Thank you daylight savings time!). Although, I didn't bring the better camera, the pics give a little glimpse of the awesome views :)
This is right at the fork in the trail where you can either choose to go down to Lago d'Averno or up to Monte Nuovo:
Definitely, a trail less traveled. We are hard-pressed to understand why more people don't use this trail. Nate wishes he had a machete at times:
Looking down into the crater:
And, ahhh.. the reward. To the left you can see the port of Pozzuoli:
Looking to the right at Monte de Procida (hey, Baughmans, I can see your house from here!):

Beautiful views! I love hiking myself but those trails look pretty steep. The prize at the end was worth it though and it was downhill all the way after that!
