Saturday we took a quick (and beautiful) 30 minute drive from Siena to San Gimignano. This was the COOLEST medieval town I had ever seen. It's situated on top of a hill and it's many towers and structures demand their presence. I am REALLY kicking myself for not getting a picture of the whole town from the road :(
San Gimignano is known for it's architecture and old towers that are still standing today. Again, Nate and I just spent the time wondering the town, eating, and shopping. The town was so ancient-looking we just loved our time here. I definitely recommend this day trip to anyone traveling in Tuscany.

Cool old streets to venture down and look around:

We loved when we came across these neat little alleyways getting you from one street to the next:
San Gimignano also has a castle with beautiful gardens surrounding it. We strolled around and checked out all the lookouts. Nate and Landon on their way to one of the lookouts:
The gorgeous view from the top, looking over the town and into the countryside. Hard to believe the view was served to protect instead of just sitting and enjoying:
The whole crew (and look we're aren't the ones taking the picture!):
The view from a different side of the castle. Once again, I have to say, I can't believe how lucky we are to have such gorgeous weather while we are here. I couldn't get enough of the Tuscan countryside:
Some of San Gimignano's towers in the midst of town. Unfortunately only 15 remain where there was once 70+:
Piazza del Duomo:
We just loved this little ancient town. We had a delicious lunch that included my new favorite noodle, pici. And then we did a little more strolling and a little more shopping and headed out.
Well, not without stopping to get one of the world's best gelatos :) This little store had all the accolades to prove it, but I wasn't going to let that sway my opinion. So was it the best gelato??
That smile (and belly) says it all.
